Experimental, poetic, performative, an attic room becomes a space for art and culture.
PERIPHERIE 8 is located in the attic of a residential building on the outskirts of Basel and is an independent off-space. The room is open for artistic, musical, performative and poetic experiments. PERIPHERIE 8 sees itself as a place for collaboration, mutual exchange and the communication of current art and cultural trends. The focus is on the diversity of different artistic forms.
PERIPHERIE 8 is a collectively run platform that was initiated in June 2021 by its main organiser, Thea Geneva.

The collective is committed to providing space for opportunities and connecting people. The collective plays with the spaces between public and private, redefining these spaces and thus revealing new perspectives. When it was founded, Virginia Woolf's seminal work on feminism, ‘A Room of One's Own’, served as a template. It is about the right to space to realise ideas. We expand on this concept and create a protected space that may appear private but has a public impact.
Especially in times of ongoing crises and rapid change, there is a need for space for cultural exchange, for opening up perspectives and opportunities, and for stimulating social discussions and possibilities.
We stand for awareness, diversity and sustainability, and we enjoy cooperating with other institutions, collectives, associations, etc.
The exhibition space has been closed since 20 September 2025.
