PERIPHERIE 8 is located in the attic of a residential building on the outskirts of Basel and is an independent off-space. The room is open for artistic, musical, performative and poetic experiments. PERIPHERIE 8 is a place for collaboration, mutual exchange and the communication of current art and cultural trends. The focus is on the diversity of different media and cultural participation. We would like to create together.

PERIPHERIE 8 is a collectively run platform that was initiated in June 2021 by its main organiser, Thea Geneva.

We are currently taking a break. The space has been closed since 20 September 2025 due to the current cultural policy situation. (New Cultural Mission Statement 2026-2031 only in German) https://www.bzbasel.ch/kultur/basel/basel-visarte-kritisiert-kulturleitbild-ld.4103306 not leave much room for the independent scene.

​We have developed a different concept in which we are more independent of funding structures and would also like to expand our team. Thea is currently undergoing further training in this field and is unable to manage the space to the same extent as she has done for the last 5 years. The further training will probably take 2 years.
​
We are therefore always happy to welcome new, committed volunteers and self-organised projects that are self-sustaining and in line with our concept.

OFFSPACES sind Orte, an denen Kunstschaffende sich ausprobieren können. Sie unterscheiden sich von einer Galerie, da sie nicht kommerziell und unabhängig sind.
Es sind nonprofit Ausstellungsräume die oft in Künstlerateliers, zwischengenutzten Räumen oder in Privatwohnungen geführt werden. Betreiber sind meist selbst Künstler:innen, häufig auch Kunststudent:innen. Obwohl es sich hierbei um einen englischen Begriff handelt, wird Offspace vorwiegend im deutschen Sprachraum gebraucht; die eigentliche englische Entsprechung ist der „Artist-Run Space“oder „Alternative Space“.

Mit einer gemeinsamen Agenda, einem Stadtplan, einem Archiv sowie einem eigenen Online-Ausstellungsraum fördern die ∑ SUMME die Sichtbarkeit der unkommerziellen Kunsträume Basels.​
